Anti-Bullying Pledge

We the students, parents, and staff of Washington Middle School agree to join together to stop bullying at our school. We believe that everybody should come to school feeling safe, secure and accepted regardless of gender, race, popularity, athletic ability, intelligence, and religion.

v. bul·ly·ing
  1. To treat in an overbearing or intimidating manner.
  2. To make (one's way) aggressively.
  3. To behave like a bully.
  4. To force one's way aggressively or by intimidation.
Bullying can be pushing, hitting, spitting, name calling, picking on, making fun of, threatening or excluding someone.
Consequences for bullying may include demerits, detention, Saturday School and/or parent contract. It may also include suspension from school for 1-5 days or appearing before a discipline panel made up of teachers, a school resource officer, and administrators to discuss further consequences and help.

Student Pledge
  1. Value student differences and treat all students with respect.
  2. Not be a bully or stand by as others are being bullied.
  3. Learn the rules and consequences regarding bullying.
  4. Report honestly all incidents I observe of bullying by:
    a. Telling an adult, or
    b. Leaving a notice in the confidential suggestion boxes located in every classroom, the
      library and office, or
    c. Calling the Anonymous Tip Hotline (562) 905-9611
Parent Pledge
  1. Talk with my child about their school day and reinforce school bullying policies.
  2. Work in partnership with the school to encourage positive behavior and valuing of
    differences.
  3. Inform school staff if any bullying has occurred.

I understand that whether I am being a bully or see someone being bullied, if I don't report or stop the bullying, I am just as guilty. Together we can stop bullying!
