Welcome to Walnut School!
"It's not how you start but how you finish” is our motto for the 2011-2012 school year. This serves as a reminder to students that hard work every day will pay off over the long run.
The Walnut staff believes that by working together with our parents, every child will make progress towards meeting or exceeding their grade level standards.
Our commitment starts in our role as a Professional Learning Community school, where teachers meet on a weekly basis to discuss student progress and work to find ways to ensure that every child learns. It continues in our Positive Behaviors Support and Intervention (PBIS) program that strives to teach and educate our core behaviors of “Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible” on a daily basis.
One of the ways we reward great student behavior is through the use of Wildcards and monthly Student of the Month assemblies. Wildcards are given for a myriad of reasons to students who show respect, responsibility and safety on campus. Wildcard drawings are held 2-3 times a week to reward the students who have earned them.
In conjunction with the Boys and Girls Club of La Habra, Walnut School has an after school program for homework help and tutoring. We also have GATE program for gifted students with the opportunity to attend GATE class after school and GATE band once per week in the morning.
All students have the opportunity to use ST Math in our computer labs. ST Math is a program that allows students to learn math in a fun way at their own pace. We are very fortunate to have received a grant that has allowed us to offer this program.
Parent support is an integral part of our community. Walnut School has an active and involved PTA. The PTA, through fundraisers, sponsors field trips, assemblies and our Annual Harvest Festival. We welcome and value your time and support. Our PTA is happy to assist you with volunteer opportunities in our school.
In annual parent surveys, Walnut School consistently receives high marks regarding school climate, curriculum and instruction, parent involvement, and our English learner program.
