Dear Sierra Vista Families,
We are beginning this school year so proud of the work we have been doing. For the first time, Sierra Vista has earned the title of being a proficient school in California by attaining an API of 816. We will continue to focus on rigorous standards based instruction and ensure that all students are provided the support and opportunities to grow in every way. The 21st century workplace will require our children to problem solve every day, work collaboratively with others and make technology work for them in that process. Our rapidly changing world is challenging our schools to move just as rapidly to keep student skills aligned and that is our goal at Sierra Vista.
The La Habra Children’s Museum has supported our schools for many years. This year their grant for the “Young at Art” program will bring opportunities for enrichment to all of our students through the visual and performing arts. In addition, our PTA will sponsor the “Art Masters” program where our students will study the work of three major art influences and replicate their style. Mrs. Olson, our district music teacher, will be on campus to support the musical arts for all grade levels in the fall. “Science on the Go” will bring the study of the human body, mammals, rocks and minerals to life for our students throughout the school year, as well. Our goal is to continue to enrich and extend the learning for all students.
As you can see, it will be an exciting year at Sierra Vista. With the positive behavior intervention and support system firmly in place, students are taught, encouraged and rewarded for showing respect for the learning environment of our school site. When we respect each other and what we are trying to accomplish together, we build pride together.
In closing, the staff and I wish to thank all of our families for their continued support for what we do at school. Our goal is to work together and maintain open lines of communication to ensure that all of our students succeed.
