April Adame joined the District in 1998 and has worked at one site, Washington Middle School, at which she has become an integral member of the staff. Mr. Carlos, the Principal at Washington, says that April is proof that one person can make a difference in the lives of students! He further comments that April takes pride in the school and in the community, treating all students as if they were her own children. She models respect, and expects the best from the students. She connects so well with children; some affectionately call her “Mom”.
As an Educational Assistant, working with Special Needs students, she exhibits a strong belief that all students will succeed, and instills that belief in them. Students know that she cares and takes a genuine interest in their lives. Also, working as a Noon Duty Supervisor, students have the opportunity to approach her and talk with her about anything and everything. She has established a trust with the students, and they know they can trust her to always guide them in the right direction. April has the ability to connect with most At-Risk students, and they know they can rely on her for help when needed. She is not only an authority figure on campus, she is a friend!
Following the regular school day, April then changes hats to lead the After School Education and Safety Program (ASES) until 6:00 p.m. Again, she is available to At-Risk students to help them in their educational endeavors. She offers academic support by teaming with her staff and guiding students to the appropriate study groups and activities. Working with middle school aged students, the respect she has earned is vital. They trust her and share concerns or look for guidance they may not be comfortable seeking in other places. She has a gift for always being able to make that “connection”. Students sense that she cares and will always listen. With the many hours she spends each day on campus, in her varied capacities, April’s presence and availability is appreciated.
Congratulations April Adame! |
