La Habra, like all other California public school Districts, enters 2012 amid great uncertainty about funding. The one thing we are sure of is that through hard work and positive efforts, our students are showing success.
As we end 2011, we are celebrating the outstanding programs and events happening in all our schools. We are fortunate in La Habra to have a very supportive family-focused community. Our schools provide multiple opportunities throughout the year to involve families and the holidays are the perfect time for student performances. These programs are always very special and bring families together to share the joy of watching their children perform.
Providing students access to the arts is important and our partnership with the La Habra Children’s Museum brings art programs to all our K-5 schools. Our schools are also creative in providing after school and family events that provide access to fun arts and craft activities. We also don’t want to forget the opportunities for our students to express themselves through music and dance.
Developing a 21st Century educational program has brought many new opportunities for our students to demonstrate their learning.
Cognitively Guided Instruction in math is visible throughout our K-5 schools. Students are actively engaged in demonstrating their conceptual understanding while building a strong foundation for their future learning. Enhancing instruction through technology using interactive smart boards, iPads, iPods, and FLIP Cameras is happening throughout the District.
We are excited about the prospects the New Year brings. The District is exploring the possibility of a GO Bond in 2012 to provide the funding for 1 to 1 access to technology for all students, upgrade and/or modernize all facilities, and provide additional resources for ensuring our facilities are in good repair.
As we see our State and Federal funding resources decrease, we must look to our community for support. |
