Welcome to Las Positas Elementary School, where we are very proud of our differentiated academic programs for all students. Las Positas provides a warm and caring learning environment where we provide optimum learning conditions for EVERY CHILD, EVERY DAY.
At Las Positas, we are consistently working very hard to improve our students’ academic growth in all areas of the curriculum. In Language Arts, our main focus is reading comprehension.  Students are leveled for their language arts instructional block called “ExCEL – Excellence, a Commitment to Every Learner.” To motivate all of our students to read, whether English Learners, core learners, or gifted students, we use the computer-based Accelerated Reader Program. Students set their personal reading goals, then independently read and test for comprehension. Students reaching their goals can earn various incentives throughout the year.  In mathematics, we teach using both a conceptual and algorithmic approach.  Students improve their math skills by using the ST Math program twice a week in the computer lab.  This individually paced program helps students understand the conceptual side of mathematics and is a favorite activity for our students.
We welcome parent volunteers and encourage visitors to come and learn about our academic program first hand.
