District Profile(top)

The La Habra City School District was formed in 1896 and recently celebrated its 100th Birthday. The district is located in the Northwestern part of Orange County and covers a five (5) mile area that includes the city of La Habra and parts of Brea and Fullerton. The 9 schools in LHCSD serve approximately 5600 students. During the summer, the district offers a comprehensive summer school program.

The district operates seven elementary schools in three teamed schools areas for kindergarten through fifth grade and two middle schools for grades six through eight. In the teamed areas, kindergarten through second grade students attend school at one site and third through fifth grades attend at another site. Sixth through eighth grade students attend one of the middle schools in the district.

In the basic program all students are guaranteed specific daily times for Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Health and Social Studies. At kindergarten through second and third through fifth schools this academic program emphasizes skill development in a self-contained classroom setting.

The middle schools provide a transitional educational experience for students in grades six through eight, which recognizes the special needs and characteristics of this age group. Both schools have expanded advisory programs, interdisciplinary team organizations, full exploratory/elective classes and staff members specially trained in middle level education.

Upon completion of eighth grade, students attend either La Habra High (562) 266-5000 or Sonora High (562) 266-2000. These high schools are part of the Fullerton Joint Union High School District. LHCSD is one of five school communities served by the Fullerton Joint Union High School District.

Advisory & Information Teams (A & I)(top)

Each school in the district has established an Advisory and Information Team (A & I) which consists of interested parents and community members. Its purpose is to maintain and improve home-school communications and cooperation. A & I meetings are held once each month to discuss educational problems and concerns and are open to all interested citizens.

In addition, a district-wide A & I team, composed of a minimum of two representatives from each school team, meets monthly with the superintendent to discuss problems facing the school district.

Community Support (top)

One of the district's finest features is the consistent support given it by the people in the community. The citizens of La Habra want the best in education for their children and they are willing to donate their time, talents and resources to assist the schools.

The help of community committees in establishing priorities and determining the district's most pressing needs, plus the continued in-classroom services of hundreds of volunteers, create a cooperative atmosphere that distinguishes La Habra as an "All-American City".

Extended Care Centers (top)

The School District provides child care before and after school for Kdg. - 8th grade students at two school sites. Students are transported to and from their schools by District Transportation Service. Hours of operation are 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. For further information call (562) 690-2305 ext 435.

Board of Education (top)

An elected, five member board of education establishes the policies that guide the operation of the school district. Board members are elected for four-year terms and serve without compensation. Board meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 7:00 p.m. The District Office is located at 500 N. Walnut.
